Municipality of Assothalom, located on Hungary's southern border with Serbia, became the crossing point for refugees and migrants making their way through Europe in 2015. Among growing anti-immigrant sentiment and with infamous razor wire border fence still in construction, local authorities struggled trying desperately to keep a lid on what they saw as a serious problem. Faced with more and more people heading for western Europe, police and civil guards were dispatched to round refugees and migrants up and transport them to Austrian border before closing the border altogether.
